When this happens your mind tries to gain control again, it does this by overthinking, overplanning and overanalysing everything. Do you recognise this in you, you may use some if these words when you describe yourself to others ‘I’m a big planner’ or ‘I’m always overthinking everything/overanalysing everything’. It sounds familiar because you do it frequently, you start to believe its who you are.
We need to be able to become more tolerant around uncertainty, life has uncertainty within it, its unavoidable and so we need to convince our mind that uncertainty does not mean danger. Thankfully the mind will believe the words that you speak and teach our brain that uncertainty is not a threat.
We can start do this by speaking out loud safety statements and repeating them regularly, these might sound like: I am safe, I can do this and uncertainty is not danger.
Part of the work in therapy is to understand where this has originated from so we can change the belief we are operating on.
